Leadership Training
One of the keys to a successful Scouting experience for young people, second only to the selection of the right person for each responsibility, is trained volunteer leadership. Leadership training provides adult leaders with fundamental information about the aims and methods of the movement, as well as specifics about their particular roles in Scouting.
For this reason, the Sioux Council is committed to provide top quality training opportunities for leaders, parents and Scouts at the district and council levels. Through these efforts, the delivery of a better and quality Scouting program can be provided to our entire youth membership.
Leadership Training Information
Mandatory Adult Basic Training
Sioux Council is one of several councils being asked to test pilot mandatory leader training. As a result the Sioux Council Training Committee is committed to mandatory training and to achieving 100% of Top Leaders trained by December 31, 2010 for the youth we serve. A Top Leader is a Scoutmaster, Cubmaster, Varsity Coach, Venturing Crew Advisor, and Sea Scout Skipper. Our first step to achieve 100% Top Leader training is to ensure that our training records are up to date. Check all trainings that you have completed even if you no longer serve in that capacity. We will be entering in the trainings you state that you have completed until July 1, 2010. All sheets need to be turned in to your District Executive by July 1, 2010. Any sheets returned after that time will be considered invalid and you will have to take any missing trainings after that point.
PLEASE NOTE: To be considered trained in your position you must have taken the course specific for that position. If you were a Tiger Den Leader last year and took your specific you were considered trained as a Tiger Den Leader. If you have since become the Wolf Den Leader you are no longer trained.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have switched positions that require the exact same training (e.g. Assistant Scoutmaster to Scoutmaster) you are still trained, but you need to contact your local District Executive or the Registrar to make sure that the computerized system shows you as trained.
