100th Anniversary Fall Camporee Campfire: The closing campfire at the 2010 North Star District Fall Camporee contained campfire ashes from Boy Scout campfires from as far back as 1907 - including past National Jamborees. Ashes from this campfire can be obtained from Greg Grajczyk.

These ashes started at Brownsea Island, where Lord Baden-Powell tried his experimental Boy Scout Camp over 103 years ago. Although they were removed later, these ashes actually contain microscopic particles from that very fire.
Since then they have picked up particles from 749 campfires around the world:
From 60 countries, 35 U.S. States, and the District of Columbia
From 51 Jamborees, 96 Camporees, 59 Wood Badge Courses, and 57 OA ceremonial fires
From 2 flag retiring ceremonies
From 1 Eagle Scout Courts of Honor
From the ashes of three scout camps destroyed by Mount St. Helen's Volcano
2010 NS Dist. Fall Campfire Ashes Pedigree.pdf contains the 20-page history or "pedigree" of the ashes of the fall camporee campfire.

HISTORIC TRAILS AWARD
Boy Scout Troops - Plans are being made for Boy Scouts to earn the Historic Trails Award while at Fort Sisseton.
A unit historic activity requires members to:
1. Locate a historic trail or site and study information relating to it. (This information may be obtained from an adult historic society, public library, or from people living near the trail or the site.) Ft. Sisseton Historic State Park has two historic trails.
2. Hike or camp 2 days and 1 night along the trail or in the vicinity of the site.
3. Cooperate with an adult group such as a historic society to restore and mark all or part of this trail or site. (This may be done during the hike or overnight camp.) Or cooperate with such a group to plan and stage a historic pageant, ceremony, or other public event related to this trail or site : such event should be large enough to merit coverage by the local press.
Boys will be performing a maintenance project at Fort Sisseton to fulfill this requirement.
Historic presentation sessions will be held at the dining hall of the North Barracks building at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm.

Hello NS Packs!
Have your Cubs had a fun time attending the Spring Camporees? Do you wish your Cubs could take part in a Fall Camporee? How about helping North Star celebrate the BSA's 100 year birthday?
Well, have we got good news for you! The Fall Camporee will be held at Fort Sisseton, and the Cubs are invited to attend the festivities on Sat. Sept. 25. Cubs and their families are encouraged to participate from the opening at 9am and stay through the dinner & program, ending approximately 8-8:30.
The day will start at 9:00am with a mass of flags. Each Unit, (Packs, Troops, and Crews) are asked to bring their flags and a ground stand for the opening ceremonies. We will have an anavenue of flags on display. After the welcome, about 9:30, will we get started with many Cub activities. There isn't a set rotation for the stations.
We will break for lunch from 11:30 to 1pm, and start up again with the activities until 4pm. At that time will do some "Leave No Trace" and ˜Outdoor Activity Award" projects until 5:30. There will be a campwide flag ceremony, dinner, and 100-year celebration program.
Some of the activities available will be Archery, BB Gun, Climbing Wall, Leatherworking, Branding, Star Lab, GFP Laser Shooting Range, GFP Jetski Trainer, and many more. Please see flyer for more details on the NS website.
There will be push-cart races & Scouts need to wear helmets. There will be some bike helmets there, but please bring one if you can.
We will also be providing laptops to do Youth Protection Training.
We need a "head-count" to plan for enough food. Please get of a number of Scouts & adults who plan to attend this event. Someone from your Pack needs to contact Todd Gary (gtgarry@itctel.com) with your numbers by the evening of Tues. Sept. 21.
As with most events, this not possible without help from parents & Leaders. We would like to have enough help to have "shift" of workers, so no one would be tied to a station for the day, but could be available to go to the other activates with their Scouts. Some of the activities will be covered with help from the Park. Pass this info on to others in your Packs, so they may offer to help. Please look over the activities and let Rhonda Stengel (scoutingstengels@yahoo.com) know how & when you can help. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. But if there aren't enough people to run a station, we will drop that activity from the schedule.
