Recent changes made to the Potpourii Page!
To make it easier to find information, we have set up separate pages for the District Committee Meeting and the Scout Leaders' Roundtable, which can now be found on the opening page of the North Star District Website: District Committee Meeting Page and Scout Leaders' Roundtable Page.
Two new web pages have also been set up. One is for the Iyatonka Chapter of the Order of the Arrow, and a District "Swap Meet" page. These two new pages are: Iyatonka Chapter - Order of the Arrow Page and the North Star District's Buy, Sell, Swap, and Borrow Page, where units can advertise what equipment they'd like to buy, sell, swap, borrow, or barter.
04/25/11 A Scout Leaders' Resources page has also been set up where Scouters can find handouts from recent Rountables, as well as other information you and your unit might find helpful.

100th Anniversary NS District Fall Camporee Campfire Contained History
The closing campfire at the 2010 North Star District Fall Camporee contained campfire ashes from Boy Scout campfires from as far back as 1907 - including past National Jamborees. Ashes from this campfire can be obtained from Greg Grajczyk.
These ashes started at Brownsea Island, where Lord Baden-Powell tried his experimental Boy Scout Camp over 103 years ago. Although they were removed later, these ashes actually contain microscopic particles from that very fire.
Since then they have picked up particles from 749 campfires around the world:
From 60 countries, 35 U.S. States, and the District of Columbia
From 51 Jamborees, 96 Camporees, 59 Wood Badge Courses, and 57 OA ceremonial fires
From 2 flag retiring ceremonies
From 1 Eagle Scout Courts of Honor
From the ashes of three scout camps destroyed by Mount St. Helen's Volcano
2010 NS Dist. Fall Campfire Ashes Pedigree.pdf contains the 20-page history or "pedigree" of the ashes of the fall camporee campfire.

Can potential new members attend Scouting events & activities?
The answer to the above question is yes. All Scouting activities, whether unit, district, or council can be used as recruiting actiivities for potential new members in your pack, troop, or crew. Potential new members are covered by BSA insurance for as many as two events or activities without being registered. After that they must make a decision whether to join or not. Units are encouraged to have their members invite friends to Scouting events and activities.
