Without the help of our volunteer Scouters and others from the community, many of our district events wouldn’t happen.  Please check the list of job openings below to see if there’s a job you can help with.  Please contact Dennis Helland at 886-6915 or by e-mail at [Click for member's page] if you can help with one or more of the events:

 

Involvement in helping organize and running these types of events carries a lot of weight in the selection process of who is chosen each year to receive the District Award of Merit and other recognitions. There is no time like the present to add more credentials to your Scouting resume, by volunteering to help with one or more district events. 

 

Fall Camporee – help is always needed to help run events, judging, helping with the campfire, preparing the cracker barrel, conducting the church service, manning the first aid station.

 

Cub Fun Days (Aberdeen and Watertown) – people are needed to help promote and help run the various events.  Right now we’re looking at archery, plastic pop bottle rocket launching, BB gun range, and caterpillar races (crawling inside large cardboard boxes).  If you can help with procuring or providing equipment for, or helping run one of the events, please let us know. If your pack has an interesting activity you think should be added, please let us know.

 

Scouting for Food – community food drives (in most communities in the district) – dropping off or folding food bags, publicity, transportation, picking up food bags, sorting & counting food, etc.

 

Cub Pinewood Derby Days (Aberdeen and Watertown) – helping Scouts build pinewood derby cars, registration, supplying tools, conducting pinewood derby races, judging, etc.

 

District Boy Scout Bowling Tournament (Sisseton) – help with keeping team scores and determining tournament winners

 

Klondike Derby (Camp Iyataka) – Running one of the events, supervising the sledding hill, manning the first aid/warming station, helping prepare meals, serving as a judge,  keeping team scores, promotion

 

Cub Polar Day (Camp Iyataka) – Running one of the events, serve as a judge, promotion, supervising the sledding hill, help prepare and serve lunch, manning the first aid/warming station, manning a warming fire

 

District Spring Rendezvous – (Camp Iyataka) – This is the big district event of the year.  It incorporates the Boy Scout Spring Camporee, the annual Webelos Crossing-over ceremony, Cub Scout Events, family camping, Camp Iyataka open house, and the district’s annual awards and recognition event.

 

Help is always needed running Boy Scout and Cub Scout events; judging events; manning the first aid station; publicity & promotion; traffic control & parking; organizing and hosting the recognition event; serving on the district awards selections committee; supervising the family camping area; registration; running the trading post; serving as the official event photographer; security; setting up and running the Webelos crossing-over ceremony; helping with the campfire; helping with the district awards BBQ; and many for smaller tasks.  If you can help with any of these events, please contact Dennis Helland at 886-6915, or e-mail at [Click for member's page].

 

Cub Day Camps (Aberdeen and Watertown) – Running or assisting one of the events; helping with publicity & promotions; helping with registration; manning the information/first aid station, etc.  Note: the Cub Day Camp Director(s) are already committed.  Now what they need is lots of help.

 

2009 Fall CamporeeThe 2009 Fall Camporee is up for grabs!  Wanted: one or more troops to step up and take on planning and hosting the 2009 Fall Camporee.  Unit or units who volunteer to plan and host this camporee get to hold this event in the location of their choice.
